Enjoy and remember these safety tips when trick or treating: Look both ways before crossing the street, make sure to wear a bright reflective costumes with eye holes big enough to see, pray to your demon overlords, and be sure to check your your candy!
Happy Halloween all you ghosts and goblins. We finally made it. Day 61 of the Candy and Corpses Halloween Horror Countdown. That's my top three films (plus lots of bonus films) a day starting with the year 1960 and up. That's a whole lot of spooky. Yes, this year has been awful and challenging but at least we've have some good fun film scares to drown out the real scares for a minute. We had underwater Cthulhu, zoom meetings gone horribly wrong, and grandma is being creepy again. I hope you all have a safe and spooky Halloween. Bonus Films!!! Surprisingly in a year pretty sparse in horror films there were quite a few films I really enjoyed. Native zombie apocalypse and wolf cops galore.
Blood Quantum (Directed by Jeff Barnaby)
IMDB plot: The dead are coming back to life outside the isolated Mi'kmaq reserve of Red Crow, except for its Indigenous inhabitants who are strangely immune to the zombie plague.
The Wolf of Snow Hollow (Directed by Jim Cummings)
IMDB plot: Terror grips a small mountain town as bodies are discovered after each full moon. Losing sleep, raising a teenage daughter, and caring for his ailing father, officer Marshall struggles to remind himself there's no such thing as werewolves.

Once in a while a film comes along that embodies the whole spirit of a holiday. First there was Halloween. Obviously, it's the quintessential Halloween film. If Micheal Myers represents the scares and stranger danger of the season then lil Sam of Trick 'r Treat brings the mystery and spooky thrills of All Hallows Eve. Every Halloween those are the two films I have to watch. That and I have to make a mummy meatloaf. That's The Dollhouse tradition. Speaking of Sam, creepy "kids" are always so unsettling. The Orphanage's little guy is full on scary. What is it with little kids in spooky masks that's so terrifying? Get them the hell away from me. I once had a little kid on Halloween ring my doorbell wearing regular clothes and a ripped up paper grocery bag with eye holes on his head say to me "Your costume is scary but I am really scary." I told him "yeah, I'm pretty scared." and he said "You will be." What the hell kid? Here's your candy now go away, you're freaking me out. Also, I don't ever want to be possessed. Or even worse, for my loved ones to be possessed and I wake up and they're starring at me all creepy-eyed. Nope, I'm out.

2. El Orfanato aka The Orphanage (Directed by J.A. Bayona)
IMDB plot: A woman brings her family back to her childhood home, which used to be an orphanage for handicapped children. Before long, her son starts to communicate with an invisible new friend.
3. Paranormal Activity (Directed by Oren Peli)
IMDB plot: After moving into a suburban home, a couple becomes increasingly disturbed by a nightly demonic presence.
