Conjoined Twin Sisters, Spanish Templar Zombies, and The Crypt Keeper. The Horrors of 1972.

Alright ghosts and ghouls, I have a few "left field" choices for my fave films of 1972. A Spanish made zombie film (which expanded into five films) with slow motion templar skeletons riding demonic horses which I've seen a hundred times, spooky EC horror comics come to life including a segment where Joan Collins fights Santa, and Brian De Palma (I either love or hate his films) did his best Hitchcock impersonation with Margot Kidder (One of my fave 70s actresses) makes for a pretty great year of horror.

1972

1. La Noche del Terror Ciego aka Tombs of the Blind Dead (Directed by Amando de Ossorio)

IMDB plot: In the 13th century there existed a legion of evil knights known as the Templars, who quested for eternal life by drinking human blood and committing sacrifices. Executed for their unholy deeds, the Templars bodies were left out for the crows to peck out their eyes. Now, in modern day Portugal, a group of people stumble on the Templars abandoned monastery, reviving their rotting corpses to terrorize the land.

2. Tales from the Crypt (Directed by Freddie Francis)

IMDB plot: Five strangers get lost in a crypt and, after meeting the mysterious Crypt Keeper, receive visions of how they will die.

3. Sisters (Directed by Brian De Palma)

IMDB plot: A fledgling Staten Island journalist witnesses a brutal murder in the neighboring apartment of a French-Canadian model, but the police do not believe that the crime took place. With the help of a private detective, she seeks out the truth.

Bonus Film!!! Yeah, it's a made for TV movie but it was the beginnings of 70s horror icon Darren McGavin as Kolchak. As a side note, check out the show Kolchak: The Night Stalker

The Night Stalker (Directed by John Llewellyn Moxey)

IMDB plot: An abrasive Las Vegas newspaper reporter investigates a series of murders committed by a vampire.

The Horrors of 1965

Sometimes bad people make good art. Do you abstain from the enjoyment of the art because it burdens your morality or do you like it for what it is? Can you separate the art from the artist? On that note, 1965 wasn't much of a year for horror except for a few treasures. Rotting rabbits, space vamps, and a tarot train.

1965

1. Repulsion (Directed by Roman Polanski)

IMDB plot: A sex-repulsed woman who disapproves of her sister's boyfriend sinks into depression and has horrific visions of rape and violence.

2. Terrore Nello Spazio aka Planet of the Vampires (Directed by Mario Bava)

IMDB plot: After landing on a mysterious planet, a team of astronauts begin to turn on each other, swayed by the uncertain influence of the planet and its strange inhabitants.

3. Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (Directed by Freddie Francis)

IMDB plot: Aboard a British train, mysterious fortune teller Dr. Schreck uses tarot cards to read the futures of five fellow passengers.
