The Horrors of 1962

1962 was a little bit of a drought year for horror. Slim pickings indeed, although there are a couple of gems worth watching. The themes this year are ghostly dudes with killer eye makeup, creepy baby Bette Davis, and Mexican vampire wrestling. Damn, too bad that isn't all in one film. That would be insane.

1962

1. Carnival of Souls (Directed by Herk Harvey)
IMDB plot: After a traumatic accident, a woman becomes drawn to a mysterious abandoned carnival.

2. What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (Directed by Robert Aldrich)
IMDB plot: A former child star torments her paraplegic sister in their decaying Hollywood mansion.

3. Santo vs. The Vampire Women (Directed by Alfonso Corona Blake)
IMDB plot: A professor recruits a professional wrestler to protect his daughter from vampires intent on kidnaping her and marrying her to the devil.

Alright, ghouls and goblins. There's 1962 for you. Yeah, #3 was a bit of a wildcard. By no means is it a good films but damn it's enjoyable to watch. See you tomorrow for 1963. xoxo

The Horrors of 1961

Welcome to day two of the The 2020 Candy and Corpses Horror Countdown!

While 1962 didn't quite have the bounty of scares as the year before it was still a pretty swell year. Creepy kids, werewilfs, and Vincent Price will help you get your scare on.

1962

1. The Innocents (Directed by Jack Clayton)
IMDB plot: A young governess for two children becomes convinced that the house and grounds are haunted.

2. The Curse of the Werewolf (Directed by Terence Fisher)
IMDB plot: In 18th Century Spain, an adopted boy becomes a werewolf and terrorizes the inhabitants of his town.

3. The Pit and the Pendulum (Directed by Roger Corman)
IMDB plot: In the sixteenth century, Francis Barnard travels to Spain to clarify the strange circumstances of his sister's death after she had married the son of a cruel Spanish Inquisitor.

So there ya have it. 1961. It's my birthday so I'll keep it short and sweet. See you tomorrow for 1962. xoxo

The 2020 Candy and Corpses Horror Countdown

Do you love horror? No, not the real stuff that's suffocating us all on the daily. I'm talking about the good stuff. The films that keep you pinned to your couch while constantly checking behind you to make sure no one is there. So here's the drill (not currently being used as a murder weapon) Usually in the month of October I post about a horror film I'm watching for each day for the 31 days leading up to Halloween. This year, I've decided you all deserve more. You have mostly endured the year otherwise known as "The Year of Fuck You" so far and I want to fill your brains with more fun spooky junk than you can shake a stick at. So what the hell is happening you ask?

Not only are we starting on this day September 1st to get our Halloween on but every single day from today until Halloween I plan on providing you with the official Candy and Corpses best three films of the year from the year 1960 right up until 2020. That's six decades of horror films x3: totaling over 180 film reccomendations. That's a lot of creepy for you to enjoy. So enough babble. Let's get it on!

1960

1960 was a great year for horror. A couple of my all time favorite films graced this year.

1. Les Yeux Sans Visage aka Eyes Without a Face (Directed by Georges Franju)
IMDB plot: A surgeon causes an accident which leaves his daughter disfigured, and goes to extremes to give her a new face.

2. Psycho (Directed by Alfred Hitchcock)
IMDB plot: A Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run, and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother.

3. La Maschera del Demonio aka Black Sunday (Directed by Mario Bava)
IMDB plot: A vengeful witch and her fiendish servant return from the grave and begin a bloody campaign to possess the body of the witch's beautiful look-alike descendant, with only the girl's brother and a handsome doctor standing in her way.

If you haven't seen any of these films, I implore you to give them a watch. They are some of the best of the best. Damn 1960, you're going to be hard to beat. See you tomorrow for 1961 boils and ghouls. xoxo

It's the Most Spookiest Time of the Year.

The year is 2020. That sentence alone is enough to send you quivering and screaming into the night. It's like we are all living in a shared horror film that never seems to end. It's kind of like if Shock Waves (nazi zombies), Cabin Fever (face eating plague), and The Dead Zone (evil President hellbent on total annihilation) had a baby and was produced by Irwin Allen (The Master of 70s Disaster films). But don't worry my dears, boy do I have a remedy for you!

Ready for it?! More spooky, scary, creepy, Halloween season than you can shake a femur bone at. Yes, here at Candy and Corpses Inc we have decided that Halloween starts September 1st and continues straight through until New Years day (or until the world explodes, whichever comes first). Okay okay, so yes, here at The Dollhouse of horrors we celebrate Halloween 369 days a year (aw yeah!!! so good we added 4 extra days just so we could say 69 and laugh). But this time of year and especially during this craptastic anxiety filled apocalyptic rat-corpse sandwich of a year it's in our blood to ramp it up to 11.

Pull out your candy corn and Dracula capes. There will be vintage Halloween commercials, horror film countdowns, spooky cartoons, random creepy old tv shows, spine-tingling music, and much, much more.
Keep your eyes peeled open for your daily blood spurts of spookiness and pus oozes of fun. So without further ado...
