The Horrors of 1966.

1966 was a bit of sleepy horror year. Sleepy like a moody nightmare perhaps but never dull. Like the rest of the 60s, the scares were there. 1966 was ruled by Mario Bava and Hammer films. Dracula, little girl ghosts, zombies, and lizards teamed up to battle your boredom.

1966

1. Dracula: Prince of Darkness (Directed by Terence Fisher)
IMDB plot: Dracula is resurrected, preying on four unsuspecting visitors to his castle.

2. Operazione Paura aka Kill, Baby... Kill! (Directed by Mario Bava)
IMDB plot: A Carpathian village is haunted by the ghost of a murderous little girl, prompting a coroner and a medical student to uncover her secrets while a witch attempts to protect the villagers.

Okay for the third films I'm going to cheat and give you a Hammer double feature by the same director.
3. The Reptile & The Plague of the Zombies (both films directed by John Gilling)
The Reptile IMDB plot: In a Cornish village, various locals die from mysterious snake bites, but the coroner rules the deaths as heart attacks, until a family of newcomers starts an investigation.

The Plague of the Zombies IMDB plot: A medical professor (Andre Morell) and his daughter (Diane Clare) link a Cornish epidemic to a village squire's (John Carson) voodoo.

So there is my walking corpses. I hope you enjoyed my faves of 1966 and found yourself a new scare to watch. Tune in tomorrow for spooky 1967. xoxo

The Horrors of 1965

Sometimes bad people make good art. Do you abstain from the enjoyment of the art because it burdens your morality or do you like it for what it is? Can you separate the art from the artist? On that note, 1965 wasn't much of a year for horror except for a few treasures. Rotting rabbits, space vamps, and a tarot train.

1965

1. Repulsion (Directed by Roman Polanski)
IMDB plot: A sex-repulsed woman who disapproves of her sister's boyfriend sinks into depression and has horrific visions of rape and violence.

2. Terrore Nello Spazio aka Planet of the Vampires (Directed by Mario Bava)
IMDB plot: After landing on a mysterious planet, a team of astronauts begin to turn on each other, swayed by the uncertain influence of the planet and its strange inhabitants.

3. Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (Directed by Freddie Francis)
IMDB plot: Aboard a British train, mysterious fortune teller Dr. Schreck uses tarot cards to read the futures of five fellow passengers.

So there you have it my little ghoulies. I hope you enjoyed my top three spooky films of 1965. Have pleasant nightmares and I'll see you tomorrow for 1966. xoxo

The Horrors of 1964

Welcome creeps. 1964 was another good year for the spookiness. The modern Italian giallo cycle begins, Japan gets demonic, and it's the end of the word as we know it and frankly I don't feel so good.

1964

1. Sei Donne Per L'Assassino aka Blood and Black Lace (Directed by Mario Bava)
IMDB plot: A masked, shadowy killer brutally murders the models of a scandalous fashion house in Rome.

2. Onibaba (Directed by Kaneto Shindô)
IMDB plot: Two women kill samurais and sell their belongings for a living. While one of them is having an affair with their neighbor, the other woman meets a mysterious samurai wearing a bizarre mask.

33. The Last Man on Earth (Directed by Ubaldo Ragona, Sidney Salkow)
IMDB plot: When a disease turns all of humanity into the living dead, the last man on earth becomes a reluctant vampire hunter.

Alright you maniacs, there you have it. The horror and gore of 1964. Tune in tomorrow for more scares and scars. 1965 was a scream. xoxo

The Horrors of 1963

Hello creeps and welcome to frightful year of 1963. While the previous year was a bit of a horror void, this year we have a plethora to choose from. This year brings you some fowl play (see what I did there?), more Italian witches, and spooky haunted houses. Plus there's a little bonus for you to chew on. wink wink.

1963

1. The Birds (Directed by Alfred Hitchcock)
IMDB plot: A wealthy San Francisco socialite pursues a potential boyfriend to a small Northern California town that slowly takes a turn for the bizarre when birds of all kinds suddenly begin to attack people.

2. I Tre Volti Della Paura aka Black Sabbath (Directed by Mario Bava)

3. The Haunting (Directed by Robert Wise)

Bonus Film!!!
I could not leave 1963 without giving a shoutout to the Grandfather of Gore. I give you...

Blood Feast (Directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis)
IMDB plot: An Egyptian caterer kills various women in suburban Miami to use their body parts to bring to life a dormant Egyptian goddess, while an inept police detective tries to track him down.

Alright critters. 1963 was a great year for horror. How will 1964 fare? Come back tomorrow and find out. xoxo
