Let this year be known as the year of the satanic ritual surviving, shitty emo boy band eating, shotgun wielding, zombie killing badass teenage girl. House of the Devil is one of my favorite films dealing with the whole 1980s Satanic Panic epidemic. (Yeah, my mom threw out all my D&D books when I was a kid worried that the devil was infiltrating my brain. All because Tom Hanks couldn't keep his shit together.) It's a total mood. You wouldn't guess that this was a more modern film, it got that 80s feel so good, down to the grainier film stock. No, I won't babysit your grandma in the middle of nowhere during a lunar eclipse. Screw that. Then, Karyn Kusama's Jennifer's Body is such a wonderful take on what it's like to be in high school as a woman. I would totally double feature this with Ginger Snaps as the ultimate puberty totally sucks playlist. Plus there's the wonderful Megan Fox. Yeah, she is super pretty and rad and with dialog like this it's pure horror-comedy gold:
Needy: They took her in their spooky van with the windows all blacked out.
Chip: Did you get the model?
Needy: I don't know Chip! An '89 Rapist?
Then if you ever wondered what Bill Murray would look like as a zombie smoking weed then look no further. Learn the rules to surviving the zombie apocalypse and have a blast doing so. So this is the end of the oughts. We are getting so close to Halloween. I hope you've watched enough horror films to appease the Halloween gods. You better hope so...
