Welcome horror hounds to the year 2000. As a kid I thought this year was going to be so futuristic and we'd all be in flying cars and have jet packs and robot dogs and whatnot. Well that didn't happen. Anyways (non-sequitur), looking for werewolf film with awesome, strong female leads? Look no further than Ginger Snaps. Pretty much a clever allegory for the hells of puberty. Hair where it doesn't belong? Check. Uncontrollable rage out of nowhere? Check. Insatiable appetite for human flesh? Check. Yup, puberty sucks. Also, let's take a look at the daily life of an awful, wealthy CEO (what the hell does he even do?) but make it funny and gory. The scary thing is this is pretty much who runs our world right now. Okay, now I am truly scared. Lastly, what if the lead actor in the 1922 Nosferatu was actually a vampire? Stay and find out.
2000
1. Ginger Snaps (Directed by John Fawcett)
IMDB plot: Two death-obsessed sisters, outcasts in their suburban neighborhood, must deal with the tragic consequences when one of them is bitten by a deadly werewolf.
2. American Psycho (Directed by Mary Harron)
IMDB plot: A wealthy New York City investment banking executive, Patrick Bateman, hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies.
3. Shadow of the Vampire (Directed by E. Elias Merhige)
IMDB plot: The filming of Nosferatu (1922) is hampered by the fact that its star Max Schreck is taking the role of a vampire far more seriously than seems humanly possible.
Bonus film!!! Okay so this make not be the best horror films ever but it is definitely one of the most stylish and pretty to look at horror films ever made. Sometimes I'll just put it on and listen to a spooky soundtrack or something.
The Cell (Directed by Tarsem Singh)
IMDB plot: An F.B.I. Agent persuades a social worker, who is adept with a new experimental technology, to enter the mind of a comatose serial killer in order to learn where he has hidden his latest kidnap victim.
That's all fiends. See you tomorrow for 2001: A Horror Odyssey. xoxo
