Well then, 1991 was a rough year for horror fans. Aside from a few hidden gems and one big blockbuster scarefest there wasn't much to be spooked about. So let's chat about the elephant in the room. As a trans woman there isn't a whole lot of positive representation in film (horror or otherwise). Generally we are either portrayed as psychopath killers or messed-up hookers (not that there is anything wrong with the latter if that is your chosen profession). One day I would love to see some trans final girls or just ya know, as regular fucking people living their lives (even if they get killed or kill in a horror film but being trans is a non-issue). Anyways, that said, I love Silence of the Lambs. It's the most mainstream horror film ever made and it brought some respect to the genre. Not that horror fans ever needed the validation. We know what we are.
1991
1. The Silence of the Lambs (Directed by Jonathan Demme)
IMDB plot: A young F.B.I. cadet must receive the help of an incarcerated and manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial killer, a madman who skins his victims.
2. The People Under the Stairs (directed by Wes Craven)
IMDB plot: Two adults and a juvenile break into a house occupied by a brother and sister and their stolen children. There, they must fight for their lives.
3. Popcorn (Directed by Mark Herrier, Alan Ormsby)
IMDB plot: A murderer begins killing off teenagers at a horror-movie marathon they have organized in an abandoned theater.
Alright creepos. That's it for now. See you tomorrow for 1992. xoxo
