Dream Creep, Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun, and Sewer Scum. The Horrors of 1984

When I was a kid, Nightmare on Elm Street was my favorite movie. I was a strange kid. I had a plastic Freddy glove and would try to wear it to school. That didn't go well with my teachers. Anyways, Heather Langenkamp's Nancy was the ultimate "final girl" going toe to toe with Freddy. Part of the film plays out like a spooky Home Alone in the best way imaginable. Also, I wanted to be Catherine Mary Stewart's Reggie in NOTC. Specifically in the black sequin dress wielding the uzi. C.H.U.D. doesn't really have a bad ass heroine but there is the one lady who wields a katana to fight of the Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers so that's cool.

 1984

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street (Directed by Wes Craven)
IMDB plot: The monstrous spirit of a slain child murderer seeks revenge by invading the dreams of teenagers whose parents were responsible for his untimely death.

2. Night of the Comet (Directed by Thom Eberhardt)
IMDB plot: A comet wipes out most of life on Earth, leaving two Valley Girls fighting against cannibal zombies and a sinister group of scientists.

3. C.H.U.D. (Directed by Douglas Cheek)
IMDB plot: A bizarre series of sudden disappearances on the streets of New York City seems to point toward something unsavory living in the sewers.

Bonus Films!!! I really struggled whether or not I'd put these two films in the top three but I decided that I consider them less as horror films and more as family fantasy/comedies with horror elements. They are two of my childhood faves though and deserve your attention for spooky season either way.

Gremlins (Directed by Joe Dante)
IMDB plot: A boy inadvertently breaks three important rules concerning his new pet and unleashes a horde of malevolently mischievous monsters on a small town.

Ghostbusters (Directed by Ivan Reitman)
IMDB plot: Three former parapsychology professors set up shop as a unique ghost removal service.

Alright creeps. See you tomorrow for 1985. xoxo
