It's All For You Damien, They're All Going to Laugh at You, and Burning Down the House. The Horrors of 1976.

Why isn't Damien a popular name for children anymore? What if you named the spawn of Satan something like Chad or Todd? Would they still be as menacing?  Yeah, so The Omen scared the hell out of me as a kid. The infamous nanny "It's all for you Damien" scene. Oh my. This film was also my introduction to devil dogs, of which I had a huge fear of after being attacked by our mean old lady neighbor's vicious German Shepard. And what else can I say about Carrie? One of my fave Stephen King adaptations. The moral of the story, bullies will get what's coming to them. Round it all out with a scary haunted house film starring Karen Black, Oliver Reed, Bette Davis, and Burgess Meredith! Yes!

1976

1. The Omen (Directed by Richard Donner)
IMDB plot: Mysterious deaths surround an American ambassador. Could the child that he is raising actually be the Antichrist? The Devil's own son?

2. Carrie (Directed by Brian De Palma)
IMDB plot: Carrie White, a shy, friendless teenage girl who is sheltered by her domineering, religious mother, unleashes her telekinetic powers after being humiliated by her classmates at her senior prom.

3. Burnt Offerings (Directed by Dan Curtis)
IMDB plot: A family moves into a large old mansion that seems to have a mysterious and maybe even sinister power over their actions.

Bonus Film! Okay, this movie isn't super amazing but it holds a special place in my heart. I wanted to rent his film on VHS so bad back in the day but the video store we went to had lost it's copy but kept the box on the shelf for some reason. The box art intrigued me and I would always ask if they got a new copy. Finally they did and I rented it. It's a decent slasher pretending to be a half-docu-style true story deal. Anyways, It has Mary-Ann from Gilligan's Island in it and I still love to watch it from time to time.
The Town That Dreaded Sundown (Directed by Charles B. Pierce)
IMDB plot: A hooded serial killer terrorizes the residents of a small Arkansas town in 1946.

And that's all fiends. See you tomorrow for another dose of scares. xoxo
